A while ago, I decided to play through the original Silent Hill games. So far, I have only completed Silent Hill 1 and 2, and I have had a blast experiencing their stories and dark and gritty environments- especially Silent Hill 2.

This is an environment inspired by the original Silent Hill games and in particular, the Baldwin mansion from Silent Hill 2. This environment took me about 6 months to complete, which may seem like an unusual amount of time to spend on an environment this small. However, despite having used Unreal Engine since UE4 came out in 2015, this is my first time constructing a real environment to completion. I found myself doing many things with the engine that I had never done before. Due to this, I learned so many new and cool things about Unreal Engine that I had never known previously. Some of these things include creating a cinematic using UE5's Sequencer tool, creating an entire blueprint system that places procedurally-generated peeled wallpaper on a wall, using Unreal's MetaSounds system for the first time, creating overcast lighting and heaps more.

In this project, I was responsible for modelling the kitchen table, cupboards, vintage clock, radiator, and stove. I assembled the scene using these props and many of the assets found on Quixel Megascans. I worked on the lighting and post-processing to give the project a cinematic-horror look. I also created the final cinematic and shot the renders all using Sequencer.

Since most of the assets in this project were brought in from elsewhere, I will be shifting my focus towards producing all, if not, as many assets as I can, in my next project. I will also, of course, be focussing on the existing goals of putting together the environment, the lighting, post-processing and the final cinematic. Another challenge for me will be to complete the project in less time than this one.

This has been a really exciting and fun journey, creating this environment, and it is a piece of artwork that I am proud of. I look forward to producing more work as brilliant as this.
